Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged today that he will send 15 million doses of anti-covid vaccines to Africa.
At a meeting that brought together dozens of African leaders in Istanbul, Erdogan announced that Turkey would be in charge of delivering the 15 million doses intended to stem the spread of the pandemic on the continent, largely left behind by vaccination campaigns.
On the occasion, Erdogan explained that Turkish researchers have developed a vaccine, "Turkovac", and have applied for emergency approval and once this occurs the vaccine will be shared with Africa.
Meanwhile, the Turkish president also expressed, before 16 heads of state and 102 African ministers attending the summit that ends today, his desire to strengthen exchanges with Africa in a large number of areas, including health, defense, energy, agriculture, and technology.
"The real potential between us goes far beyond our current goals," he insisted.
