The Constitutional Court (TC) of Angola published this Saturday the definitive lists of the eight political parties that will run for the general elections scheduled for August 24, writes the newspaper de Angola.
Seven political parties (MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA, APN, PHA and P-NJANGO) and one coalition were admitted as candidates.
The initial lists were published on June 26, after which there was a period to correct any insufficiencies or irregularities, which ended on July 5, with all candidacies cleared
According to the source, the TC will now send the National Electoral Commission (CNE) the list of admitted candidates, and this entity will be responsible for the draw that will define the order in the ballot boxes.
Presidential elections have not been held since the 2010 Constitution came into force, with the President and Vice President of Angola being the heads of the party with the most votes in the legislative elections.
In the last election in 2017, the MPLA (Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola) won a majority with 61.07% of the votes and 150 deputies, and UNITA (National Union for the Total Independence of Angola) won 26.67% of the votes and 51 deputies.
