Drug trafficking: SERNIC detains Angolan wanted by INTERPOL

On December 21, the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) arrested an Angolan citizen wanted by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) since September 2019 in the city of Maputo, at the request of the Angolan police authorities.

The Angolan citizen fled when he was already serving a final sentence of 10 years in prison for International Drug Trafficking, according to a statement from SERNIC shared this Monday and to which MZNews had access.

SERNIC says that the Angolan trafficker can also be charged with the crime of falsifying documents, because at the time of his arrest he was carrying identification documents from various countries such as Mozambique, Brazil, Namibia and the Seychelles, and with different names from his Angolan registration. "... and in other [documents] with a different photograph and the same identification".

The citizen, whose name has not been revealed, according to the Mozambican corporation, will be extradited in accordance with the principles and procedures of legal and judicial cooperation in criminal matters.

For SERNIC, "this is a sign that the Mozambican authorities are attentive to all movements of citizens who intend to use the country as a refuge, as well as to nationals who become involved in the world of crime," it reads.
