The security situation in Cabo Delgado province, especially in Afungi, Palma district, where TotalEnergies operates, is still vulnerable to terrorist attacks. In addition, the French multinational recently began a process of demobilizing its staff. But the National Petroleum Institute (INP) believes that the oil company will soon return to Afungi.

According to the hydrocarbon sector regulator, there are conditions for the return of TotalEnergies, which has been in a "force majeure" situation since 2021. The Chairman of INP's Board of Directors, Nazário Bangalane, says that the contacts maintained with TotalEnergies point to a return in the near future. "In the meantime, we can't give any dates, but we're working to ensure that this happens as soon as possible," he said, quoted by the Portuguese newspaper News.

About demobilization of French oil company employees in Cabo DelgadoThe INP's PCA says he is not aware of the matter.

Quoted by the newspaper, the CEO of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné, said recently that the security situation in Cabo Delgado is already allowing activities to resume. For the time being, negotiations are underway with the companies that have pledged to finance the project valued at more than 20 billion dollars.
