The United States will impose "appropriate consequences" on Russia in response to the death of American journalist Brent Renaud, shot down by Russian troops in Ukraine.
The warning was made by Jake Sullivan, US National Security Advisor, in a statement to CBS News. The official called the journalist's death "shocking.
According to Jornal Negócios, US authorities will consult with Ukrainian authorities to determine "exactly how this happened."
The American journalist was killed by the Russian army.
The initial information pointed to a New York Times reporter, but the paper corrected shortly after, indicating that the journalist was a former contributor.
The American newspaper reported that this is a former journalist of the daily who had done several jobs for the Times, the last of which in 2015. The information given by the Ukrainian police was based on an old card of the newspaper that the reporter had in his possession.
