The National Criminal Investigation Service announced the arrest of a man suspected of involvement in the case of the businessman kidnapped a week ago, who was found dead on Tuesday in one of the neighborhoods of the city of Matola, Maputo province.

"In connection with the crime, we detained a citizen. Sernic [the National Criminal Investigation Service] regrets this and is doing everything it can to solve this problem of kidnapping crimes," spokesman Leonardo Simbine told the media.

The body of the businessman, who was kidnapped over a week ago, was found in Txumene, in Maputo province, in the south of the country, with wounds and signs of aggression, but the authorities warned that it was too early to give a specific cause of death.

"At the moment, forensic medicine is doing its job," said Leonardo Simbine, quoted by Lusa.

The man was kidnapped on December 14 in front of one of his businesses in the municipality of Matola by an armed group.

A video captured by surveillance cameras at the scene of the crime shows the exact moment when the group, made up of four men, dragged the businessman into a car in broad daylight.
