"IMF's resumption of financial support is an opportunity to stimulate the national economy"

The former Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Tomaz Salomão, says that the resumption of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in supporting the state budget, should be seen as an opportunity to increase national production, towards the achievement of economic independence.

Tomaz Salomão says the country must work to generate more resources for the state coffers, reduce the budget deficit, and improve external debt management.

The leader was speaking last Friday, in Xai-Xai, during the inaugural class, which marked the opening of the academic year at UNISAVE, under the theme "Regional Integration in SADC and the Unbalanced Development levels of the countries in the region.

"We generate more resources for our state, reduce our trade deficit, budget deficit, improve the management of our debt, more prudence obviously, we have learned enough. We improve the national accounts, we promote the development of micro, small and medium enterprises, we reduce our foreign dependence, yes, today the IMF is there, but tomorrow they will get angry again and leave. In the long run we have to know how to live without them. With them, whether we are friends or not, we will resume the program. Are we going to continue to depend on the will of this or that partner? Some with good intentions and others not," he said.

Tomaz Salomão, reiterates the need for greater investment in the Agro-industry, in order to catapult the national economy.
