Requalification of the Port of Nacala delays revenue collection

The Government considers that the ongoing works for the requalification of the Port of Nacala have delayed the collection of revenue planned for this year. According to the Mozambique Tax Authority (AT), Nampula delegation, these works have contributed to slowing down the dynamics of dredging vessels in that port.

Muanjuma Sualehe, AT provincial delegate in Nampula, of the 16 billion meticais planned as a revenue collection target for this year in Nampula, about 14.6 billion have been collected so far.

"Although the requalification of the Port of Nacala is a constraining factor in revenue collection, we are working hard and believe that we can reach our goal. That is why we ask for everyone's collaboration, including civil society, in this process of revenue collection", assured the official.

Started in 2018, the rehabilitation works at the Port of Nacala are somewhat delayed due to restrictive measures in the context of the new coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, it is expected that with the completion of the project, the Port of Nacala will become a regional shipping reference with increased container handling capacity.
