Maputo province is seen as the most industrialized in the country, despite the challenges of sufficient food supply, employment, housing, transport, fighting corruption and good governance.
The alert was presented this Wednesday by the governor of Maputo province, Júlio Parruque, during the XXIII Plenary Session of the Development Observatory, which is taking place in the Administrative Post of Matola-Rio, in the district of Boane.
"In the first half of 2022, more than 34 projects were approved with an investment volume amounting to USD 823 million, 12,625 new jobs generated, an achievement of 59.5%. Water coverage and supply rates stand at 64% (versus 51% in 2020), while electricity distribution is 82% (versus 50% in 2020)," Parruque announced.
In the economic sector, the Governor highlighted the growing trend in agricultural production and productivity whose impact is measured in food and nutritional security, with the rate of poor child growth being 0.1% and the rate of chronic malnutrition in under-5s being 8.1%, the lowest levels nationally.
"The XXIII Session of the Development Observatory in Maputo province, the first one conducted by Decentralized Governance bodies, increases our responsibility in leading the local development process and the commitment to carry out the Observatory with the necessary assiduity and with due comprehensiveness and inclusiveness," he stressed.
The Development Observatory is a consultative and participatory forum between the Government and partners for the promotion of sustainable socio-economic development, planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation of the Government's planning instruments, as well as for reflection and sharing of experiences.
