HCB's electrical energy production at 29 percent of this year's target

Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB) is expected to produce 29.6 percent more electricity by the end of December 2021. At the moment, the company has a figure of 70.4 percent, about 10,899.79 gigawatts produced between January and September of the current year.

According to a HCB communiqué cited by "O País", electricity production is at a rate of 5.5 percent, and the hope is that by the end of December this year, 14,125.53 gigawatts will be produced.

In the same timeframe, the water storage volume of the Cahora Bassa Reservoir stood at 91.4 percent, about 324 meters above sea level, by the end of the third quarter, when the 2021-2022 rainy season begins.

Given the current volume of water, there is a reduction of the stored water level to at least 320.80 meters by December 31 of this year.

The objective of this work, which is being carried out in coordination between the Hydroelectric of Cahora Bassa and the Regional Administration of Waters of the Center (ARA-Centro), is to accommodate the capacity of the dam and the reservoir's operating rules.

In the coming months, Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa will also have to implement maintenance and profitability projects for the electric generating system.

Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa is currently the largest producer of electricity in Mozambique and has a capacity of 2000 megawatts, of which close to 250 are supplied locally, 1000 to South Africa and 400 to Zimbabwe.
