Ukrainian President Accuses West of Lacking Courage and Calls for Jets and Tanks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday accused the West of lacking courage as his country fights against Russian invasion and called for jets and tanks for Ukraine to defend itself.

In statements this Sunday, after US President Joe Biden said in Warsaw that Putin could not stay in the Russian presidency and after the White House and Secretary of State Blinken softened those statements, Zelensky criticized the West's "ping-ponging" over who and how will deliver jets and weapons to Kiev.

"I spoke with the Mariupol advocates today (Sunday). I am in constant contact with them. Their determination, heroism and steadfastness are amazing," Zelensky said in a video message, quoted by the Economic newspaper, referring to the besieged southern Ukrainian city that has suffered the worst deprivations and horrors of war.

"If only those who have been thinking for 31 days about how to deliver dozens of jets and tanks had 1% of their courage," he lamented.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began 33 days ago, is stalled in many areas, and the Russian goal of encircling the capital and forcing its surrender has faced strong resistance from the Ukrainian army, backed by weapons ceded by the West.
