Commodity prices rose by 0.89% during October

The prices of basic products registered an increase of 0.89% during October in the cities of Maputo, Beira and Nampula when compared to the previous month.

According to the data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the country also registered, in October, an accumulated inflation of 4.14% while the year-on-year rate was 6.42%.

"The food and non-alcoholic beverages and transport divisions were the most prominent, contributing around 0.43 and 0.23 percentage points (pp) to the total monthly change," reads the document released by INE.

The INE points out that there was also the monthly variation by product, with more emphasis on the increase in the prices of gasoline (3.7%), tomatoes (5.3%), coconut (15.5%), dried fish (3.6%), horse mackerel (1.5%), complete meals in restaurants (0.5%) and fresh fish (1.2%).

For INE, "these contributed in total to the monthly variation with about 0.59pp positive.

Meanwhile, from January to October, INE revealed that the country recorded a price increase of 4.14%.
