Rede Viária de Moçambique (REVIMO) is studying the possibility of reducing the tariffs charged on the Maputo-Katembe bridge toll, which currently vary between 160 meticais and 1.200 meticais, according to the Road Fund.
The President of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the Road Fund, Angelo Macuacua, quoted by cartamz, said that it is intended to "make an integrated approach to the toll system of Maputo, including Katembe" revealing that this purpose will cover Macaneta.
This may culminate with the "revision of the rates that we are practicing, even the means of payment, the toll control systems," said Macuácua, without giving dates, (i) for the implementation of this approach on the existing bridges; and (ii) for the start of operations of the new tolls on the Maputo ring road.
Regarding the controversy surrounding the construction of tolls on the Greater Maputo ring road, Macuácua said that the objective is to offer a better quality of service to the user.
"If we can't maintain the roads, the partners who help us build roads won't fund us," he said, making it clear that the amount collected from the tolls will be for their own maintenance.
