The General Director of Puma Energy Mozambique, Danilo Correia, warns about the almost certain and inevitable rise in the price of oil derivatives in Mozambique due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, which is causing a shortage of some products on the market, such as wheat flour.
"The price of fuel will rise. It has to go up, because the crisis caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine is global [and no doubt] this will affect Mozambique, no doubt," said the official, quoted by a national portal.
Correia reportedly said that Russian oil will be scarce, so that "a tightening situation" is already foreseen for the near future. "We have no doubt about that," he concluded.
The official, who was speaking during the inauguration of another gas station in the city of Matola, Maputo province, assured that a dialogue is already underway with the government to control the situation.
"The measures are still being studied, but I can guarantee beforehand that the price of fuel will rise for the good of the entire economy," he said.
Puma Energy Mozambique's alert comes almost two weeks after the Mozambican Association of Oil Companies anticipated that the crisis will increase the barrel's price, a fact that will demand an immediate readjustment in Mozambique.
The last readjustment of fuel prices took place on October 20, 2021. With the readjustment, gasoline went from 62.50 to 69.94 Meticais per liter; diesel from 57.45 to 61.71 Meticais per liter; lamp oil from 43.24 to 47.95 Meticais per liter; cooking gas from 58.18 to 71.02 Meticais per kilogram; vehicular natural gas from 30.00 to 32.69 Meticais per liter-equivalent.
