PR assesses progress of PSA project with Sasol

PR avalia o progresso do projecto PSA com a Sasol

The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, received the president of the South African multinational Sasol, Simon Baloy, in audience on Wednesday.

The meeting served to assess the progress of the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA), an investment of one billion US dollars that is nearing completion and promises to strengthen the national economy through the production of gas and electricity.

On leaving the meeting, Simon Baloy highlighted the importance of the PSA project for Mozambique, stressing that it was "a wonderful project that we have done with the Mozambican project"

The investment will enable the production of natural gas and the supply of energy to the Temane Thermal Power Plant (CTT), which is also nearing completion.

The chairman of Sasol also revealed that the project will contribute to the production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), thus reducing dependence on imports of this energy source. "We will also produce LPG, which will be used to reduce the amount of gas imported into Mozambique," said Baloy, stressing the positive impact on the country's energy security.

Sasol, which has been operating in Mozambique for more than two decades, reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the country. "We have been in this country for more than 20 years and we will be here for the next 20 years and more," said Baloy, highlighting the continuity of investments and strategic partnerships with the Mozambican government.

The Sasol executive also highlighted the favorable environment for business provided by the current government, despite the challenges faced. "Even if we had some challenges, we are encouraged by the stability that the President is bringing to the country, together with all the partners, to create a conjunctive place for business," he said.

The Temane Thermal Power Plant, which will use gas supplied by Sasol, is expected to double energy production capacity with Mozambican gas to 900 megawatts.

This increase in electricity production is a fundamental step towards guaranteeing the country's energy stability and boosting industrial growth.

Simon Baloy expressed his enthusiasm for Sasol's continued presence in Mozambique and the positive impact its investments will have on the country. "We are excited to continue contributing to Sasol's development in Mozambique," he concluded.
