At least ten children were killed and dozens injured by the Mozambican police during the post-election demonstrations called by Venâncio Mondlane in protest against the election results of October 9..
The figures, by far, reveal the brutality of the police in the name of enforcing "law and order" and a gross violation of human rights.
The international non-governmental organization Human Rights Watch (HRW), responsible for the complaint, says that Mozambican security forces have also detained "hundreds of children", in many cases for days, "without notifying their families, in violation of international human rights law".
"The protests and the government repression that followed led to serious disruptions in education across the country," the NGO said in a statement.
"The Mozambican security forces, who used force illegally against demonstrators and passers-by, also showed a shocking disregard for the lives of children," says Allan Ngari, HRW's director of advocacy for Africa.
