The Post-Cyclone Reconstruction Office has $15 million available, to fund the recovery of Micro, Small and Medium-sized businesses affected by tropical cyclones Idai and Kennth.
The amount results from the announcement, in February, to the private sector, of the implementation of the Matching Grants Program for companies in Cabo Delgado, Manica, Sofala, Tete, Zambézia, Nampula and Inhambane provinces.
The Program will be implemented through the Incomati and Ayani Consortium and has as its target group Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, encouraging companies owned and/or led by women.
According to the press release we had access to, the program consists in making available co-funded financing for a minimum of 600 Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises.
The goal of the program is to stimulate the comprehensive and sustainable recovery of the private sector affected by Cyclones Idai and Kenneth and to strengthen the sector so that in the future it will have greater capacity to respond to natural disasters.
It also includes recovering assets (equipment and materials) essential to the productive capacity of companies; establishing and/or fostering jobs; reducing the vulnerability of SMEs to future calamities and other unforeseen events, such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic; and raising the awareness of companies in the area of resilient management in the face of natural disasters.
