The writer Paulina Chiziane considers that one of the country's greatest challenges is to use knowledge to recover important conquests such as freedom, dignity and humanity that in her opinion are being lost.
The most cherished of Mozambican authors received yesterday at the Pedagogical University of Maputo an honorary doctorate in artistic studies, culture and literature, in a well-attended ceremony held at the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Center.
The novelist told Notícias, upon accepting the honorific title, that she dreams of seeing in the country the fruits of the Mozambicans' struggle against evils such as colonialism and slavery, which in her opinion are overshadowed.
He mentioned that betting on knowledge is one of the ways to reverse this scenario and that this knowledge must be built locally and properly applied. "If you don't know who you are and where you are going, you will have a lost freedom. If you don't create your own knowledge and know-how and you are waiting for someone else to give it to you, he will do it when he wants", he warned.
According to the writer, some answers about Mozambique's underdevelopment can be found here. "We have to call I don't know who to come and make roads, houses, and even drainage ditches. After all, what are they studying for?", she questioned.
In his view, the university must cultivate in students the spirit of independence in every sense.
"It's good to awaken this awareness and not think that I'm bad because I wasn't given a job. Develop your inner power and create your own job. The university gives tools, the rest is your power to solve," he advised, considering that all times have obstacles and the biggest one for the current generation of Mozambicans "is to recover the freedom and dignity and humanity" lost.
