Bakers call for reduced import charges for bread raw materials

The Mozambican Association of Bakers (AMOPÃO) calls for the reduction of customs charges on imports of raw materials for bread production. For the association, this will reduce the price of bread in Mozambique.

"if you reduce the obligations required on the import issue this can help the baking sector," said the President of AMOPÃO.

Victor Miguel said that besides flour, "we consume the yeast, the vitamin," stressing that the beginning of Ukrainian cereal exports is a good sign for food security.

"Those are good signs. There was a period that no ships were coming to Africa and now there are many countries that are getting these benefits. And we believe that Mozambique will also be contemplated," said, Miguel, expecting "a positive result [from this opening]."

Last week, the first ship carrying grain departed Ukraine for Africa, days after the United Nations predicted an increase in the number of transit requests for grain exports from Ukrainian ports.
