More than 80 thousand tons of pigeon peas have been exported to the Indian market since the renewal of the agreement between the governments of Mozambique and India, in July last year, reveals an official source.
According to the director-general of the Mozambique Cereals Institute (ICM), Mahomed Valá, the updated agreement provides for India to import 200,000 tons of pigeon peas over a five-year period.
The source also says that the export of an unspecified quantity of pigeon peas and other grain legumes until March 31, 2023 is still open under the MoU and the existing free quota.
It should be noted that India is one of the largest foreign investors in Mozambique in recent years, with investments in different areas of economic activity, with emphasis on mineral coal, natural gas, among others.
