Temane Thermal Power Plant works executed at 92%

Obras da Central Térmica de Temane executadas a 92%

Construction work on the Temane Thermal Power Station (CTT), in Inhambane province, is at an advanced stage, with around 92% having already been carried out, the project's vice-president for maintenance operations, Francisco Augujsto, said on Monday.

Construction began in 2022 and is proceeding as planned, according to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Petroleum Institute (INP), which expects to maintain the start of energy production operations.

The CTT will be the largest clean energy production infrastructure built in the country in the post-independence period, using natural gas from Pande and Temane. It is expected to reach 450 MW in the production phase. The investment amounted to 650 million dollars. Another 400 million dollars was invested in the construction of a 563-kilometer transmission line between Temane and Maputo province.

"It's an integrated venture that will supply gas for electricity production and produce cooking gas," said Nazário Bangalane, quoted by "Notícias". Operations are expected to begin next December.

The project is expected to reduce the pressure on forests from the population that still uses firewood and charcoal, since cooking gas will be more readily available.
