The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, launched the celebrations for the Golden Jubilee of National Independence during a ceremony on Tuesday (June 25) to mark the 49th anniversary of National Independence.

The event will be celebrated under the slogan 50 years of Independence, Consolidating National Unity, Peace and Sustainable Development.

According to Nyusi, the motto chosen is intended to exalt the values of National Unity and Peace, which are indelible marks of our history.

"We also want to praise the achievements and accomplishments of the people in various areas, as well as the country's affirmation in the international arena," he said.

For the PR, National Unity, Peace and the projection of Mozambique at the Concert of Nations stand out in the country's historical journey. Nyusi defends society's appreciation of these achievements as they represent gains from June 25.

"In all our activities we must exalt and value our Independence as one of our greatest and main achievements," he said.

On the occasion, Nyusi outlined the activities that will embody the celebrations, namely the launch of the Flame of National Unity on April 7, Mozambican Women's Day, in the province of Cabo Delgado, and the start of the march that will take the torch through the country's ten provinces to the city of Maputo, where it will end on June 25 at the Independence Day ceremony.

On the other hand, the PR awarded honorary titles and decorations to national citizens for their role in the Mozambique Liberation Struggle and national development.
