The national miombo woodland may decline over time if mitigation measures are not taken to use this resource.
This warning was made, this Thursday, by Mozambican researcher Almeida Sitoe in the continuation of the first regional conference on sustainable and integrated management of miombo woodlands.
Miombo woodlands represent 2/3 of Mozambique's forest wealth and are responsible for much of the carbon sequestration.
In a situation of balanced miombo woodland Mozambique would have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 78 percent.
"As long as cutting trees remains profitable we will gradually reduce our forests," Sitoe was quoted as saying by Domingo.
