Nampula expects to reach a production of more than 85 billion this year

The Plan and Budget of the Nampula Provincial Executive Council forecasts an output of 85.1 billion meticais this year, with projections indicating an economic growth of 6.1%, in the order of 90.3 billion meticais next year.

These forecasts were advanced, recently, by governor Manuel Rodrigues, during the VII Session of the Provincial Assembly.

The agriculture and fishing sectors will have the greatest impact on this overall growth in the province, with the former expected to produce 12.2 million tons of various crops and the latter more than 809,000 tons of fish by 2023.

To increase production and productivity, the agriculture sector should be provided with means and inputs, namely tractors, construction and/or rehabilitation of dams, installation of 80 agricultural fields, as part of the transfer of agricultural technologies, distribution of an equal number of motor pumps for irrigation and 180 watering cans.

In the fishing component, the proposal mentions that in the next year, several actions will also be developed, with emphasis on the execution of fishing projects, licensing of seven thousand artisanal fishing gears in all districts of the coastal area and training of 150 aquaculturists in feed production techniques and good practices.

The proposal focuses on sustained, participative and inclusive economic and social development activities, taking an integrated approach with a direct impact on the lives of the population.

The plan calls for the construction, by 2023, of four first cycle secondary schools in as many districts, where this type of education does not currently exist, in addition to 130 classrooms and the acquisition of more than two thousand new desks, which will allow 14,000 students to stop studying sitting on the floor.

Meanwhile, Manuel Rodrigues said that the plan and budget will be executed in a restrictive context, based on the adoption of rationalization and public spending containment measures.
