Mozambique receives ADB funding to install weather radars

Moçambique recebe financiamento do BAD para instalação de radares meteorológicos

The Mozambican government already has 5 million dollars at its disposal for the purchase and installation of weather radars in the cities of Xai-Xai and Nacala-Porto, in Gaza and Nampula provinces respectively, as a result of funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB), as part of improving the early warning system.

According to the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, who was speaking yesterday, Thursday (21), during the launch of the "Maputo Province Climate Bulletin" and the presentation of the "Annual Report on the State of Mozambique's Climate in 2023", both early warning systems (weather radars) are part of a total of seven that are to be installed throughout the country.

"These are systems that cover a diameter of 800 kilometers. We need seven of these types of weather radars to cover every centimeter of Mozambique. We already have one that we inaugurated in the city of Beira, Sofala province," explained Magala, quoted by the AIM.

According to the minister, Mozambique is on the list of the first 30 countries to benefit from external investment to install the "Early Warning for All by 2027" system, an initiative launched by the United Nations and international partners.
