Mozambique may adopt legislation regulating alcohol advertising

The Deputy Minister of Health, Ilesh Jani, has said that the government may propose a debate to the National Assembly (AR) on the approval of legislation to regulate alcohol advertising in the country.

"We agree that this issue should also be debated in Parliament," said Jani, recalling that tobacco advertising has been reduced.

He was speaking on Thursday at the closing of the 7th ordinary session of the Children's Parliament, where he addressed the issues of drugs, namely alcohol and tobacco.

He noted the occurrence of many cases of consumption of substances harmful to health in various parts of society. He said that around 15,000 patients had been admitted to health facilities with drug-related disorders.

The Deputy Minister of Health said that this was partly due to the excessive advertising of these products, coupled with the ease of access.

"Unfortunately there are still advertisements for alcohol and this needs to be regulated," he lamented, quoted by the News.

Jani said that the Ministry of Health has a mental health program to support drug victims, but without a specific model for minors.
