This Monday (30), in New York, the United States of America (USA), Mozambique defended the mobilization of financial and other resources with a view to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with six years to go before the 2030 Agenda deadline.
The position was presented by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Manuel Gonçalves, during the 79th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, noting that Mozambique is optimistic about the collective future in which an environment of peace and security can reign.
"We encourage all member states to accelerate their commitments, including strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation to respond to prevailing challenges, including the fight against poverty, conflict, terrorism and climate change," Gonçalves said.
A publication by AIM says that Manuel Gonçalves, during his explanation, made it known that the functioning of global institutions should keep pace with the dynamics that are required.
"We align ourselves with the voices that defend the urgency of reforming the United Nations, especially the Council at the Security Council level, for greater inclusion, giving a permanent voice to the African continent," said the Mozambican leader.
Mozambique is encouraged by the continued collaboration between the United Nations and the African Union, in the context of overcoming conflicts and maintaining international peace and security, highlighting resolution 2719, adopted by the United Nations Security Council.
Regarding the terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado province, the deputy minister said that the Mozambican government was acting vigorously with the support of SADC, Rwanda and international partners, although he recognized the challenges that exist.
