Mozambique fell one place compared to 2023 in the Corruption Perception Index, a global indicator that assesses how corrupt each country's public sector is.

According to the perception of experts and businesspeople cited in the report on the past, produced by Transparency International, Mozambique went from 145th to 146th place, with a score of 25 points on a scale of 0 to 100.

According to the same report released yesterday (10) in Berlin, Germany, cited by the Letter from MozambiqueIn the last 12 years, Mozambique has only managed to achieve 31 points in 2012, 2014 and 2015 and 30 points in 2013. However, during Filipe Nyusi's two terms in office, the country achieved a maximum of 27 points in 2016.

In 2023, the country shared position 145 with Nigeria, Liberia and Madagascar, but all three nations managed to move up in the 2024 Index. Liberia ranks 135 (with 27 points), while Madagascar and Nigeria rank 140 (with 26 points).

The report does not detail the challenges the country faces in the fight against corruption, but points out that the sub-Saharan African region registered an average score on the Corruption Perception Index of 33 out of 100.

"However, in the midst of this very low annual performance, there were African countries that invested in the fight against corruption and made remarkable progress," he emphasizes, highlighting Seychelles (with 72 points), Cape Verde (62), Botswana and Rwanda, with 57 points each.
