MINT to have a Public Security Management Information System

MINT vai contar com Sistema de Informação de Gestão de Segurança Pública

Today in Maputo, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, laid the foundation stone for the Ministry of the Interior's (MINT) Integrated Information Center, as part of the institution's Emergency Management Information System project.

He explained that the venture will not eliminate crime such as kidnapping, human and drug trafficking, illegal immigration, terrorism, smuggling of goods and money laundering, but it is a "middle ground" to combat transnational and organized crime.

"No one here can say and deliberately confuse or manipulate the information that this project has come to solve or end terrorism, money laundering or kidnappings, but it is a middle ground for the use and different synergies to be able to find solutions," he said.

The aim of the project is to train the subunits of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, the National Public Salvation Service and the National Criminal Investigation Service.

The project was conceived in 2015 with the support of the South Korean government, but only came to fruition this year because it went through several stages "of indecision", said the Head of State. He said that the fact that the country had gone through times when it was "not financially credible" led to the delay in materializing the project.

"The project's vision includes cutting-edge digital technology to improve the processes for understanding citizens' requests to the police in the cities of Maputo, Matola and Nampula. It includes the expansion of SERNIC's automatic fingerprint verification system to Nampula province," he said.

He said that the project was part of the government's plans to improve public order, safety and tranquillity.

The infrastructure should be completed by the end of next year.
