The Minister of Health, Armindo Tiago, asked on Friday for calm in the face of the threat of a general strike by doctors, who contest irregularities in their inclusion in the new Single Wage Table (TSU), promising that the errors will be corrected.
"What we should say to calm down the whole society is that the TSU should be seen as a profound change in public administration. As it is a profound change, involving more than 300,000 employees, it is predictable and normal that mistakes can occur in this process," said Armindo Tiago.
At issue is the threat of a national strike by the Medical Association of Mozambique, which contests irregularities in the inclusion of doctors in the new TSU, a problem also raised by professionals from other areas of public service.
For the Health Minister, the protests of the Mozambican medical class are understandable, but there is a commission created by the legislature that receives and analyzes the complaints in order to find solutions.
"I believe that the framework commission, created in the context of the law, will analyze all the questions that are being asked and will give an answer in due time. We have already had a meeting with the association and the Order of Physicians and it was clear that the dialogue will guarantee that all the questions raised, according to the possibilities, will be solved", added the governor.
If the problems prevail, according to the Medical Association of Mozambique, the national strike will last for 21 extendable days, starting at 07:00 on November 7th.
"We regret that it has to come to this point. We have always [been] guided by dialogue, but at some point we feel that we are having a monologue and not a dialogue. We send letters and have no answers, but our rights and statutes are being violated," Milton Tatia, president of the board of directors of the Medical Association of Mozambique, told the media on Thursday.
According to the Order of Doctors of Mozambique, there are situations of professionals who have seen their salaries fall with the application of the TSU, violating the principle of salary irreducibility.
