The Minister for the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, Lídia Cardoso, is launching a course on improving boats and fishing gear for fishermen in the district of Namaacha, at the Matola Fisheries School.
A press release we had access to states that the courses will cover 20 young fishermen from the district, with the aim of strengthening knowledge and techniques in producing improved boats and fishing gear, in order to increase fishing production and productivity, improving income, food security and the population's quality of life.
After the training, this group should replicate the knowledge in their respective communities of residence and work so that it benefits as many fishermen as possible.
In addition to the Minister for the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, the event will be attended by representatives of the Fisheries School, the Ayuda en Accion Foundation, the Centro Tecnológico Del Mar (CETMAR), district fisheries delegates and technicians, beneficiaries and others.
The training is part of the Pe1xan-MZ project, which aims to improve the livelihoods and food security of the population by strengthening fishing and aquaculture value chains in Namaacha, implemented by the Ayuda en Accion Foundation in partnership with the Centro Tecnológico Del Mar (CETMAR) and the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries, with the aim of contributing to the sustainability of the livelihoods of local communities in Maputo province.
The project will run for three years in the Namaacha district and will directly and indirectly benefit 2,500 people.
