Triton Minerals, a mining company that is developing graphite exploration projects in Ancuabe, in Cabo Delgado province, confirmed the death of two of its security men in one of the attacks carried out near the mines, last Wednesday, 08.
A communiqué received in our newsroom today indicates that the Ancuabe district is under attack by insurgents.
"Triton's management and employees are all saddened by the loss of their colleagues, and our focus is on ensuring the safety of our work force and their families in the region" said Triton CEO Andrew Frazer, quoted in the statement.
The company says that none of its materials were affected during the attack and that activities are continuing as normal "and we understand that the authorities are doing everything in their power to ensure permanent stability in the region."
The Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) has activated a military escort of vehicles on EN1, Mozambique's main highway, on the stretch between Metuge and Ancuabe, following an insurgent attack that left four dead, in the village of Ntutupe, near EN1.
