He is seven years old and in 2020 he underwent complete amputation of his genitals. The doctors are trying to perform reconstruction, but there is already one certainty: the little one's life will never returná to be the same.
This is the second case of amputation of the genitals of a minor, curiously in the same province, Tete, and almost along similar lines.
"We've created a new urethra and we're still doing reconstruction techniques to enlarge the urethra and to create a small penis so he can urinate standing up," explains Igor José Vaz, the surgeon in charge of the operation.
Medicine is doing what it can to minimize the pain and suffering of the boy whose name we can't reveal, but there are scars that even time can't heal.
"This child will never have a normal penis, he'll never have normal testicles, so he won't be able to make children," the surgeon explained to the journalist.
"And even growing up with the secondary characteristics of a man will be difficult. From a certain age, this child will have to undergo hormone replacement that will last a lifetime," says the specialist.
Because of his physical condition, the child has been bullied by his schoolmates, which has caused him to adopt aggressive behavior. "The child is traumatized," says the specialist doctor.
"This child hits his mother, hits his classmates, rebels against everyone. Something is happening, he's realizing that he's different from the others, that he doesn't have a penis, that he doesn't have testicles and that he probably won't be able to have children," says the surgeon.
Pain and abandonment
On the other side of the room at the Cruz Azul clinic in Maputo city, we find the mother and child whose life is hanging by a thread, after a neighbor decided to amputate the boy's genitals using shoe laces and ropes.
"My son was at home... then he decided to go out and play, and it was at this point that a neighbor followed him, lured him with a packet of cookies and took him into the woods," says the mother with a sad countenance.
"There in the woods, you tied my son around the neck with a shoelace, while the child screamed for help," says a tearful mother, next to her son who is lying in bed waiting for another operation.
To completely immobilize the boy, the 26-year-old took a rock and hit him on the neck. "My son fainted and when he woke up he no longer had a penis," said the mother.
In the morning, the child was found crying and abandoned in the woods by a woman who was passing by. "She took him to the provincial hospital in Tete, where he received the first treatments to stop the bleeding," she said.
The individual responsible for this macabre act is on the run from the police.
The treatment takes place as part of a Reconstructive Surgery Program and is funded by the Irish Embassy.
