Criminals broke into the Provincial Office for Combating Corruption in Manica and stole computers and criminal files. The crime was allegedly carried out by an alleged agent of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in collusion with a military officer.
According to a report in the newspaper "O País", it all started when, at around 7pm last Monday, a PRM agent in uniform and armed with an AKM-type firearm arrived at the scene and introduced himself as an agent scheduled to work.
Minutes later, another individual knocked on the gate and a private security guard opened it. It was a military man in uniform, who asked to speak to the PRM officer on duty. The policeman said he knew him and the three of them stood there talking like colleagues.
"The conversation didn't last long and the alleged policeman and his alleged military friend announced that it was a robbery, then tied up the security guard of the private force, broke down the door and stole some criminal files," says the same publication.
Meanwhile, according to a source in the Provincial Anti-Corruption Office, the individuals fled when the real agent arrived. The stolen files were already at an advanced stage of investigation, but the Anti-Corruption Office promises to reconstitute them.
On the subject, the provincial commander of the PRM in Manica, Lurdes Mabunda, said she had no information yet and would be able to comment later.
