Maputo International Airport has received more than one million passengers this year, a figure that was last reached in the period before the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company's operations director, José Candrinho, considers the record number of passengers after the pandemic to be satisfactory, but warns of more challenges ahead for the institution.
"It's a very important milestone that we have registered more than one million passengers. Today we are marking the one millionth passenger. The last time we reached this milestone was before Covid," he said.
International projections for a return to pre-pandemic passenger flow levels were for 2024.
In addition to the improvement of airport infrastructure, the entry of new flight operators contributed to the record.
"All this has resulted in an increase in airline frequencies. New companies have come in and this is the result," he said, noting that some airline operators are already planning to increase their flights. (Source: RM)
