The First Lady of Mozambique, Isaura Nyusi, believes that the terrorist attacks that have affected some districts of Cabo Delgado province, in the north of the country, and the natural disasters that in recent months have caused enormous damage in the central and northern regions, have contributed to a lack of compliance with some basic children's rights.
According to Isaura Nyusi, who was speaking during the opening ceremony of the IV ordinary session of the Central Council of the Organization of the Continuing Providers of Mozambique, which took place this Sunday in Maputo, "terrorism in Cabo Delgado has aggravated the suffering of our fellow citizens who are displaced, living in a situation of vulnerability, thus contributing to the non-fulfilment of some basic rights enshrined for Mozambican children".
For Isaura Nyusi, who is also the president of the Organization of Continuers of Mozambique, one of the fundamental rights of the child is the right to life and health; to freedom, respect and dignity; to family and community life; to education, culture, sport and leisure; including the right to professionalization and protection at work.
"The difficulties faced, above all by the children, during the year 2022, underlining the occurrence of natural disasters, which shook normal coexistence," he acknowledged.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) estimates that by mid-2022, around 350,000 children will be displaced due to the terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado.
The wife of the President of the Republic expressed her comfort and solidarity with all the citizens affected by terrorism, including natural phenomena, and then acknowledged the government's efforts to create conditions to house families in safe places.
In the meantime, she showed her conviction to plan, during the session, the best ways for the Organization to continue mobilizing communities to better care for and defend children's rights, given the current adversities.
"We are aware that the reflections that will come out of this session will contribute to our ability to lead children to an education based on love for the family and the people, dedication to studies to serve the homeland, respecting the culture of work, the practice of sport," said Isaura Nyusi, quoted by AIM.
