Microcredit institutions readjust credit conditions due to uncertainties

Granting credit to economic agents is increasingly difficult for microfinance institutions, since most potential borrowers are from the informal sector, most affected by the covid-19 pandemic and the current climate of uncertainty in the market.

This situation has forced microcredit banks to readjust the terms of their offer, often forcing clients to leave real guarantees, the value of which exceeds the credit to be granted.

Other operators in this branch have chosen to redefine their customer profile, giving up informal sector economic agents in favor of salaried people on more secure contractual terms and micro-enterprises.

According to the weekly newspaper "domingo", microcredit managers believe that with the spread of the current pandemic, there were many requests for credit from economic agents in the affected sectors to invest in other businesses that still held some openness.

In addition to these, there were requests from citizens who had lost their jobs in order to excel through investment. However, this new mass of clients aggravated uncertainties, because they were more driven by desperation and their projects could not be fully trusted. According to them, it was during this period that they decided to suspend the credit requests, especially those coming from micro-entrepreneurs, "because the investments were not advancing with the same strength, there was a lot of uncertainty about the national business flow," said Valdo Suaze Muiambo, manager of a micro-credit bank.
