The National Social Security Institute (INSS) announced yesterday that it had detected cases of undue payments of benefits to beneficiaries and pensioners of the compulsory social security system.
The financial shortfall, according to a statement from the INSS, was discovered after internal audits by the institution. And in connection with the scheme, three INSS employees are being held in custody.
According to the INSS, the system was "camouflaged" through the payment of sickness, maternity, old age, disability, survivor, funeral and death pensions.
However, the INSS assured in the same note that it has already submitted the case to the justice administration bodies for the appropriate treatment.
