The death toll from the road accident that occurred on Friday morning (06) in Morrumbene district, Inhambane province, has risen from 13 to 15, reports Rádio Moçambique.
The two-vehicle collision involved a minibus carrying passengers on the Maxixe/Massinga route and an articulated lorry.
The lightly injured were transported to the Morrumbene Health Center, where they are receiving medical assistance, while the seriously injured are at the Chicuque Rural Hospital in the town of Maxixe.
In addition to the deaths and injuries, the accident caused extensive damage to the minibus in which all the victims were travelling.
The commander of the PRM in Morrumbene, Berta Felisberto Foquisso, said that the driver of the "chapa" was among the dead.
"The accident was caused by the 'chapa', which, after bursting one of its tires, crashed head-on into the truck that was traveling in the north/south direction along National Road Number One (EN1)," he said.
The President of the Republic, in a message published on his Facebook page, expressed his regret at the tragic accident and called for greater caution and respect for traffic rules.
It calls on drivers to help prevent such devastating tragedies as the one that occurred in Morrumbene.
Data shows that in the first six months of this year, the roads in Inhambane province and Gaza were the deadliest, with 55 and 46 deaths respectively.
