INGD em estado de alerta face a aproximação da tempestade tropical “Gamane”

The National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction (INGD) guarantees that it already has teams in place to reinforce the pre-positioning systems in response to the alert issued on Tuesday (26) by the National Meteorological Institute (INAM) regarding the approach of tropical storm "Gamane" in the northern and central regions of Mozambique.

According to INAM's alert, "Gamane" is the ninth low-pressure system that has formed on the island of Madagascar and has evolved into a severe tropical storm and could affect the weather with moderate, locally heavy rainfall in central and northern Mozambique.

The president of INGD, Luísa Meque, said on the sidelines of a visit to families affected by the floods in the country's capital, that there are already provincial teams working in the areas identified as being at high risk.

"We have already pre-positioned in the provinces and whenever there is a forecast in those areas, we reinforce what our repositioning is," said Luísa Meque, quoted by AIM.

The source added that in view of the forecasts for the north and center, "the teams that are there are already working on strengthening prevention mechanisms".
