India overtook the United Kingdom in 2022 and entered the 'top5' of the world's largest economies

Índia superou Reino Unido em 2022 e entrou no ‘top5’ das maiores economias mundiais

India will become the world's fifth largest economy by 2022, overtaking the United Kingdom, according to the latest figures from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) quoted by the economics website "El Economista"in a list led by the United States of America. By 2030, China is expected to top the table.

In the current ranking, China, Japan and Germany follow the US as the world's largest economies.

India's overtaking of the UK was due to factors such as Brexit and the possibility of a recession in British lands, explains El Economista.

The same publication, quoted by the newspaper Económico, says that India soon has the prospect of overtaking Japan and Germany, and probably China. In India's favor is the country's growing population.

The projection for 2030 places China as the world's largest economy, followed by the United States and India. Japan and Germany follow.

However, analysts believe that the growth of India's economy is dependent on the successful implementation of ongoing structural reforms such as trade and financial liberalization, investment in infrastructure and human capital and labour market reform, reports "El Economista".
