Today, 15 years after it was taken over by Mozambique, the Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Plant (HCB) is responsible for 77% of the electricity consumed in the country, according to the President of the Republic (PR).
For Filipe Nyusi, HCB plays a crucial role in the country's development, and the reversion of the company represents the management capacity of Mozambicans.
"The reversal of the HCB and the availability of clean energy have brought economic assets for a qualitative leap in the standard of living of Mozambicans," said the PR, quoted by "O Pais".
The president, who was speaking in Tete on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the reversion of the dam, also said that the reversion of HCB to Mozambique was the result of the country's independence, and that the resilience of the Mozambican staff at the company should be celebrated because the most difficult thing is to guarantee its maintenance.
Quoted by Televisão de Moçambique, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, said that "HCB remains steadfast in its mission to produce energy, reaffirming the capacity of Mozambicans to lead this major undertaking that serves local communities, the country and the southern African region".
