Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB) has raised a little over 1.4 billion Meticais in the last three years, as a result of selling energy to national companies in the sector.
The information was given yesterday by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, during the gala celebrating 15 years since HCB was turned over to the Mozambican state.
According to the head of state, the reversal has also improved the availability of energy for Mozambicans.
"These results reflect the capacity of Mozambican staff to manage a large-scale enterprise such as HCB, which passed into national management after the reversion in 2007," said Filipe Nyusi.
In his speech, Filipe Nyusi also highlighted the public offering of HCB shares in 2017, allowing more than 17,000 Mozambicans to become shareholders in the company through the Stock Exchange.
During his speech broadcast by Televisão Publica, TVM, the President of the Republic stressed that the reversion of HCB to the Mozambican state fifteen years ago "should not be seen as a new independence, but as an opportunity for more Mozambicans to benefit from energy, as has been the case today".
It should be noted that HCB is responsible for 77% of the energy consumed in Mozambique, in a project built more than fifty years ago.
