"There needs to be strengthened integration of climate change issues"

The Minister of Land and Environment, Ivete Maibaze, argues that strengthening the integration of climate change, green, blue and circular economy issues into planning and budgeting processes is of utmost importance to achieve global sustainable development goals.

The minister was speaking Monday at the Second Segment of the 5th Session of the Assembly of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEA 5.2), which is being held in a hybrid format (in person and virtual) in Nairobi, capital of Kenya.

According to Maibaze, who heads the Mozambican multi-sectoral delegation at the event, broadening the integration of these issues into the different national governance instruments can promote quality investment and create the potential to simultaneously improve the livelihoods, health, and resilience of poor men and women in the face of climate change.

"We recognize the need to take a holistic and integrated approach as a requirement to end poverty in all its forms and in all places. Sustainable development outcomes will only be achieved if actions remain within traditional social, economic and environmental patterns," she said, quoted by AIM.

He added that it is essential to accelerate legal reforms on land and forests to ensure inclusive and sustainable natural resource management and economic growth linked to poverty eradication.
