The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) has issued a warning about the circulation of false information claiming the existence of financial grants to help the country recover from the economic crisis.
In a press release made public through its website, the Ministry says that the dissemination of these messages, made through social networks, mentions a supposed partnership between the Mozambique Development Agency and an entity called GEN, with the aim of supporting entrepreneurs through financial grants for the recovery from the economic crisis.
The document, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, invites individuals and entities that wish to be included in the said program to apply by contacting the institution.
"The MEF is unaware of the provenance of the document and distances itself from its contents. The Ministry is prepared to clarify any questions that may arise around this issue," the government institution distances itself.
It is important to mention that recently the government announced the availability of about 35 million meticals for the financing of Small and Medium Enterprises and businesses of the populations affected by terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
The credit line launched by the Executive aims to revitalize economic and commercial activity in areas recovered by the Defense and Security Forces (FDS).
In the context of support for the victims of terrorism, the payment of basic social allowance to displaced families has already been resumed.
Earlier, that is, in 2020, the Government had announced the creation of another credit line to support SMEs and minimize the impact of the new coronavirus.
Since the outbreak of the disease in 2019, the business sector has resented its direct economic impact through reduced revenue volume, increased production costs, scarcity of business opportunities, and disruption of value chains.
Small and Medium Enterprises are the ones that have suffered the most from the effects of the pandemic due to structural weaknesses that have made them unable to survive in a highly challenging context.
