The Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) in Gaza are warning the population to be vigilant when making transactions in the market, given the circulation of counterfeit notes.
The warning follows the neutralization last week in the district of Guijá of a 33-year-old woman in possession of 7,000 meticais in counterfeit notes.
The head of Public Relations at the PRM Command in Gaza said that the woman was arrested when she tried to deposit the money in a bank in the district.
According to Carlos Macuácua, quoted by the newspaper Notícias, she said she had received the banknotes when changing currency from the rand to the Metical in neighboring South Africa, when she was preparing to enter Mozambique, and at the time she didn't realize that they were counterfeit.
