The Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Helena Kida, warns that parents could be held responsible for the involvement of children in these demonstrations, characterized by the authorities as "acts of vandalism, looting of commercial establishments and physical violence".
"The moment of accountability will come and if minors aren't unaccountable they won't be held responsible, those who have an obligation to look after them will be held accountable," Helena Kida said.
This weekend, citizens took to the streets and set up barricades in several cities. In Maputo, the country's capital, the protests are having an impact on transportation, the branches of some banks, which normally operate until midday, have kept their doors closed and commerce has been restricted.
