Government foresees economic recovery next year

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, foresees the recovery of the economy in 2022, a year that may be marked by the start of natural gas production in Mozambique.

According to Filipe Nyusi, the year about to end brought a glimmer of hope when the Mozambican economy managed to grow by 1.78% against the negative performance of minus 1.8% in 2020.

Nevertheless, these indicators, according to the Head of State suggest the beginning of economic recovery and inflation control below 7%.

"In our outlook, prior to the covid-19 pandemic crisis, the year 2021 would see an inflection of the growth rate curve and the beginning of a new cycle of economic prosperity. However, with due caution, we can project for 2022, growth between 2.6% and 5.3%, assuming we can sustain the stability achieved in the second half of 2021. If so, we can project a growth above 7% from 2023 onwards," he stressed. Nyusi.

To this end, the president of the republic understands that these indicators have also had their impact on food security, a field that has seen hunger recede, as food stocks have increased from 32% in 2020, to 56% in 2021.
