Governo diz que ainda não recebeu informação sobre prorrogação da missão sul-africana em Cabo Delgado

The Mozambican government says that it has not yet been officially informed of the extension of the period of stay, from July to December, of the South African troops that are part of the SADC force (SAMIM) fighting terrorism in Cabo Delgado province, in the north of the country.

It was in a letter dated April 15, sent to Parliament, that the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, announced the extension of the period of stay of 1500 men from his country's army in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado. Although the information made headlines in several newspapers, the Mozambican defense minister is unaware of it.

"I'm saying that I have no knowledge. I only become aware as a member of the Mozambican government when there is a formality in the communication, so I am not communicated with," he said.

"I would ask that we all contribute to the population of Quissanga being able to register in a climate of stability and security. As those responsible for security, we will do our best to ensure that this activity can be carried out and not only that life returns to normal," he concluded.

The initial voter registration for the general elections scheduled for October 9 is taking place in the district of Quissanga, in Cabo Delgado, from May 1 to 15.
