Today, the government authorized three companies from the State Business Sector (SEE), namely Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) and Empresa Moçambicana de Seguros (EMOSE) to acquire state stakes in the company Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM).
"With the amount raised by the sale of 91% for its stake, an estimated 130 million US dollars, we intend to invest in the acquisition of eight aircraft and the restructuring of the company," said Inocêncio Impissa, spokesman for the Executive, after the III Council of Ministers.
He explained that, in fact, the conditions are being created for these companies to help manage the LAMs.
"And because these companies have the autonomy and characteristics of companies competing with the private sector, they are expected to use the rules and management parameters of international companies. And in this way, we believe that the shareholders themselves will not only be able to have greater control of the money they are going to spend or invest, but also that they will be able to apply the rules of complienceand accounting, so that the normal life of the company can be monitored," he said.
However, Impissa warned that, as these are SEE companies, they will have to submit periodic reports to the government in order to verify the extent to which the results have been achieved for the benefit of Mozambique.
